When symptoms do appear, they may include a persistent dull ache or sensitivity in a specific tooth, pain when biting or chewing, a pinkish or reddish discoloration of the tooth crown, a feeling of looseness in a previously stable tooth, or swelling and tenderness in the surrounding gum tissue.
